Initiation Ending Explained [SPOILER!]

During a university’s pledge week, the carefree partying turns deadly serious when a star athlete is found impaled in his dorm. The murder ignites a spree of sinister social media messages, sweeping the students and police into a race against time to uncover the truth behind the school’s dark secret.

Initiation Plot Summary and Synopsis

During homecoming week at Whiton University, two Greek-letter organizations hold a raucous party, during which a sorority member named Kylie is found unconscious and alone in a room with three members of Sigma Nu Pi: Beau, Dylan, and Wes. Her photograph is posted to social media the following morning, accompanied by an exclamation point, which is used on campus to mark someone as a slut.

Fellow sorority member Ellery is keen to discover the truth, particularly as Wes is her brother. She’s secretly watched by Tyler, who is in love with her.

Wes is murdered with a knife by an unknown assailant in a mask. His body is drilled and fixed to a door and later is discovered by Dylan and Beau. In the following days, Wes is glorified by the university chancellor Van Horn, who highlights Wes’s prowess at swimming and his lost potential. 

During her investigations, Detective Sandra Fitzgerald discovers that Wes had a prior sexual assault case against him, but that it was covered up by the university. She has fellow detective Martinez investigate further. Ellery also begins to receive many calls and other unwanted attention from Tyler. She also informs Kylie that Wes had previously been accused of sexual assault.

Dylan is murdered in the toilet. Beau moves to the dorm and is murdered there by the same masked assailant.

Ellery attends a meeting with Van Horn, who she discovers is angry that she is investigating the sexual assault. After she leaves, the murderer traps Van Horn in his office and murders him, knocking Tyler unconscious in the process as he was also in the office. Meanwhile, Ellery has rejoined Kylie and the two witness the murder, causing the murderer to chase after them.

Initiation Ending

The resulting chase ends with Ellery stabbing the killer, who is revealed to be Martinez, Kylie’s father. He had been motivated to murder Wes and the others after learning that the fraternity had committed similar rapes and other crimes, which the university had covered up.

The protagonist stays alive along with her friends, though all of them will have deep psychological issues in the aftermath.
