Let’s
face it, producer Jason Blum’s Blumhouse production company runs
the horror game in Hollywood and no one else comes close. The “Halloween
franchise? Given to Blumhouse. Universal’s planned Monster-verse?
After its failure, Uni gave it to Blumhouse to pick apart and so far, (“The
Invisible Man
”), it’s only been hits. Blumhouse makes relatively
inexpensive movies and turns major profits on movies. Ambitious scale doesn’t
seem to be necessary, as all their projects seem to really nail the psychological
and violent emotional nitty gritty of horror. You don’t need to spend $200
million (or even $75+ million) for that and Blumhouse seems to know this
perfectly. Up next? Horror for the high rollers over at Amazon who enlisted
Blumhouse for a new anthology horror project: “Welcome To The Blumhouse,”
which is essentially four different, cost-effective horror movies made by
diverse talents all under the Blumhouse banner.
